Israel May 2013, Week I

 Namal Tel Aviv Port

On our first full day after arriving in Israel we had lunch at the Namal Tel Aviv Port.  I look forward to this place every time we visit Israel; there are tons of great restaurants, cafes, shops and people watching.  It's got huge wooden decks shaped like rolling waves that the boys love running up and down.

 Excursion Up to the Golan

We spent a few days in the Golan (Northern Israel).  On the way up there, Babi and Zeide took the boys on a train ride just for fun.  Moises and I dropped them off at a station in Tel Aviv, picked them up about 30 minutes into our route and then we all continued on our road trip.  We made several stops to eat at fantastic restaurants, visit wineries, and explored all the playgrounds.  Zeide and the boys are connoiseurs of the parks in Israel!
My little Elie bellie is always so excited to see me, even if he's coming from a 30 minute train ride!

Closing in on a big bear hug!

Lunch in Zichron Yacov
We stopped at the park after lunch before continuing on our way.

One of the boys stayed in Moises' parents room while the other stayed with us and then we'd switch the next night.  Moi and I would come downstairs for breakfast to see the boys' hair looking like this... Babi had given them a full on comb-over as if a cow licked them.  We immediately messed up their hair :-)

Ancient farming village of Katzrin

We visited an archeological site of a farming village dating back to 4th-5th centuries.   It was built around a natural spring that still flows today!  They discovered a synagogue, wine press, olive presses and homes.

Lunch off the beaten path:

We went to our favorite winery, Bazalet HaGolan, for a tasting.  We haven't been able to find their reserve wine in the states so we had a couple cases shipped to the states :-)  We asked the man giving us the tasting for a good place for lunch.  He recommended this little tiny place in the middle of nowhere that serves amazing smoked meats.  Everything is made in-house from the sauces, freshly baked bagels, smoked meats etc.  It was incredible!

Lunch at a fisherie:

One of the days we had lunch at a fisherie.  The boys kept the fish well fed and chased the ducks and peacocks in the yard.  There was this particular peacock that was hitting on this duck sitting in the bushes.  Finally she had enough and nearly attacked him!

Apparently she found his pick up lines irritating!

The Chocolate Factory

We toured a chocolate factory on a kibbutz.  All of their chocolates are made by hand and it was really cool to see how it's done.  After the tour, the boys got to make their own chocolate!

After our tour, we sat in the cafe with some coffee and chocolates.

Asher and I took some "selfies" while we waited in the car for everybody to finish at the cafe.

Galil Mountain Winery

Our last wine tasting of our trip to the Golan was at the Galil Mountain Winery.  We really loved this bottle of Yiron, a nice blend of Cabernet, Merlot, Sirah and Petit Verdot aged in oak 16 months.
